Lash Lift FAQ What is a Lash Lift? The lash lift procedure has revolutionised old, inadequate perming techniques. Using silicone pads instead of perm rods, this new technique can lift, straighten or curl, and lengthen your own natural lashes to create a brighter, fuller, wide eyed look.
- No need for extensions and the associated aftercare, this will last you 6-8 weeks and can be combined with a tint to leave the mascara behind.
- Can a Lash Lift be used to compliment other treatments? Yes! A lash Lift is enhanced when you use an eyelash growth product, such as RapidLash which is available in our store.
While your lashes grow longer, our process controls straight or overly curly lashes by giving them a uniform lifted look. Black eyelash tint is applied during the treatment to enhance the look of your lashes. See treatment price list here. Is a Lash Lift the same as an eyelash perm? No the Lash lift is a new, improved procedure, overcoming the ‘over curled’ look of its predecessor,
Whilst the chemical procedure is identical to a perm, the difference is in the results. By ditching the old fashioned perm rollers which curled back the lashes to the extent of the ‘dolly look’, the silicone pads used for this new procedure lifts the lash from the root in either a straight or curled, upwards fashion that produces length and a bright eyed enhanced look.
Does the Lash Lift procedure hurt? No the procedure is totally painless. You will have your eyes closed for the entire treatment and although it may feel a little strange being unable to open your eyes for this time, it offers you a chance to relax during the treatment.

- There are some situations that may cause the lift to drop/weaken prematurely such as swimming, use off harsh products or heat.
- If you find that your lift does not last the full 2 months, you can repeat the treatment after a minimum of 4 weeks of having the initial treatment, but not before.
- Will I have a reaction to the lotion? Very few people have a reaction to the lotion but that doesn’t mean you won’t be one of them.
What one person reacts to, another is fine with. This is why you can opt to have a patch test 24 hours beforehand. A patch test is quick and simple. Wiping it off and waiting to see if any subsequent irritation occurs over the next 24 hours such as redness, itching or inflammation for example.
- I wear contact lenses, can I have this procedure? Yes.
- However, we will ask you to remove them temporarily during the treatment as the eyes will be closed throughout.
- Can I wear makeup after my lash lift? Yes but it is advised that you leave your lashes untouched for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
You may find that there is no need for mascara anyway, but if you wish to make your lashes even fuller, a non-waterproof mascara is advised as the removal of waterproof mascaras can be harsh on the lashes and weaken the lift. How do I clean my eyes? Gently, using mild products.
- Always wait 24 hours to do this, straight after the procedure.
- Can I use an eyelash curler? No.
- There will be no need for an eyelash curler as this treatment gives a much better result than using a curler, But more importantly, using one may weaken and damage your lashes.
- How often can I have a lash lift? A lash lift will begin to naturally drop after about 2 months and your lashes will be back to their natural look.
The lashes should drop evenly and will not look out of place. You can repeat the treatment after a minimum of one month if you feel you need to, or you can wait until they are back to their natural state. : Lash Lift FAQ

Is lash lift healthier than Lash Extensions?
What Is a Lash Lift? – A lash lift is mostly known as being an alternative to eyelash extensions. But don’t make the mistake in thinking that lash lifts are worse or lesser than lash extensions. Lash lifts use specially made, non-toxic chemicals on your natural lashes.
- These chemicals work to break down the lashes’ structural bonds and reform them.
- They’re kind of like a perm for your eyelashes! This allows your lashes to become curled from the base to the tip, which makes them appear longer and lusher.
- That’s an important distinction: while a lash lift does add curl to your lashes, it doesn’t actually add length or volume.
They just appear to look longer and fuller because of the added curl.

Why are my lashes so frizzy after lash lift?
Normal Lashes Lifts Can Damage Lashes – Thioglycolic acid can be dehydrating and damaging when used in lash lifts. If your lashes have become frizzy after a lash lift, the perming agent used was too harsh. Only thick lashes can take these kinds of perming solutions.
- If your lashes are on the fine side, they will be damaged.
- When strong perming agents are used, they need a very short amount of time to work.
- Leaving strong solutions on your lashes for too long means they will become over processed aka frizzy.
- Lash technicians need to judge the thickness of your lashes to work out how long to leave your perm on for.
But this is a difficult thing to judge, often leading to over processed lashes.

Who should not get a lash lift?
The Not-So Hidden Dangers of Lash Lift Few cosmetic enhancements seem as desirable as longer lashes in today’s beauty marketplace; from prescription serums to fiber mascaras, and false lashes to lash perming, the cosmetic industry is overrun with options for achieving gravity defying eyelashes.
Newer to the market is lash perming, a procedure that focuses on enhancing the look of your own lashes. Dubbed Lash Lift, these procedures promise to be a more natural approach to bolder looking lashes for people who want to lay off daily eyelash curling and heavy mascara or false lashes.
- The process uses no long term glue holding in fake lashes, and can enhance lash appearance without the need for irritating lengthening serums or mascara.
- The person’s own eyelashes instead are permed so that they curl dramatically upwards; one treatment can last 6-8 weeks.
- The beauty world has been abuzz with dramatic before and after images, with features on,, and a huge push from sharing their results.
But is Lash Lift really safer than other options for lash enhancements on the market? Like most cosmetic products and procedures, there are significant possible dangerous side effects to the delicate surface of the eye. The process of an eyelash perm itself has several potential hazards, and would need a very careful and well trained aesthetician performing the procedure to prevent the risk of chemical injury to the eye.
First, protective pads are glued to the top and bottom surface of the eyelid in an effort to shield the eyelid skin from unneccessary exposure to the perming chemicals. If the glue were to come in contact with the waterline or surface of the eye, it could cause major irritation.
Some skin types may also be at risk of having an allergic reaction to the glue, so the skin should be tested before the procedure on the arm to rule this out. A silicone curler is then glued to the top eyelid, and the eyelashes are then curled up over the curler pad and glued to stay in place. Then a chemical perming solution is combed through the eyelashes to break down the keratin shaft and encourage the hair to bend to the shape of the curler.
Different companies will use different perming solutions, but the main ingredient is ammonium. Because the beauty industry is not regulated in the same way as the medical industry, companies do not have to share what ingredients and what percentages of these ingredients are used in the procedure.
|The waterline is where the delicate meibomian glands are located, right below the root of the eyelash follicles. As you can see from this photo, the glands are exposed to the treatment solutions, even though your eye is closed. Glues or perming solution contacting the glands could result in toxicity, which you would experience as redness, puffiness, and lingering dry eye symptoms like irritation, watering, and itchiness or discomfort.|
To avoid the potential risks, Lash Lift providers have extensive FAQs warning about the dangers of the process to the surface of the eye. You must remove contact lenses before the procedure, and those that have had ocular surgeries, including blepharoplasty (eyelid lifts) and LASIK must wait at before having the procedure done.
Aestheticians warn that Lash Lift should be performed if a person has a history of eye allergies, eye infections, styes, sensitive eyes, watery eyes, or chronic dry eye. Are these warnings enough, however How many women or men pursuing this procedure would have consulted with an eye doctor first to have the opportunity to even be diagnosed with dry eye syndrome? Because the cosmetic industry is not regulated under the FDA with the same guidelines as the medical industry, this is where the system really breaks down.
Like all options available on the market for lash enhancement, lash perms come with inherent risks for the ocular surface. Some people might have severe reactions from lash growth serums but do great with lash perms like beauty blogger, Others might have recalcitrant dry eye side effects from Lash Lift procedures like There is no completely safe way to manipulate the ocular surface with chemicals, whether they be from serums, perms, or glues.
Who is not a candidate for lash lift?
If You Have Short, Fine Lashes Unfortunately with very short, stubby lashes we won’t be able to perform the service properly. I would recommend taking a look at Eyelash Extensions for a more dramatic look where we can build upon your existing lashes.
What happens if you open your eyes during a lash lift?
Does It Hurt? – The short answer: Not usually, “We rarely have clients complain about stinging,” says Richardson. “It’s crucial to keep your eyes closed during the process and not let the formula get in contact with the eye itself, as that could cause a reaction If you open your eyes.” If you read reviews of keratin lash lifts online, you’ll see that most people don’t experience any pain at all (although it can be a different, non-painful kind of discomfort to sit with your eyes closed for up to an hour).
But with that being said, I turned out to be one of a few people who found the process to be slightly painful. After the keratin formula had been applied and my esthetician was letting my lashes absorb it (step five above), I felt a burning sensation along my upper lash line and eyelid. It was tolerable, but it wasn’t exactly comfortable either.
I liken it to the feeling of getting a little bit of moisturizer in your eye on accident (the keratin formula wasn’t actually in my eyes, I just have a sensitive lash line). I told my esthetician that I was experiencing this pain and she helped soothe the area by cleansing my eyelids with a cool, damp tissue, which really did help ease the pain.
My lash line also only felt this stinging sensation for the last two minutes of the setting time (which is around 10 minutes total), so even if you do experience discomfort (which, according to Richardson, is more common for people with fair skin, light eyes, and a history of having a sensitive eye area), it doesn’t last long.
The most important thing is to communicate with your esthetician, who is specifically trained on what to do if you feel pain. A week before your appointment, stop all use of topical retinoids, chemical exfoliators, spot treatments, harsh cleansers, and facial scrubs around the eye area, as these formulas can make your skin more sensitive to the keratin formula.
Does removing mascara ruin lash lift?
Type of Mascara – Done correctly, you shouldn’t have to use mascara after a lash lift. But, if you choose to wear mascara, make sure it’s water-based! Avoid purchasing waterproof mascara since it’s difficult to remove. You want to avoid touching your eyes as it is, so attempting to remove mascara can greatly damage your lash lift.
What happens if you put mascara on lash extensions?
What Happens if You Put Mascara on Lash Extensions? – Applying mascara on lash extensions can cause the lashes to stick together, resulting in a clumpy look. Moreover, oil-based mascaras can weaken the bond of the lash glue and cause your extensions to fall out prematurely.
