Why can’t I block someone on Imessages?

Blocking through your device settings will only allow you to block your contacts. If you go through the blocking method from your device’s settings, you won’t be able to block someone unless they’re already saved to your contact list.

Do iPhones receive blocked texts?

What happens to incoming text messages when you block a number on iPhone? – When someone you’ve blocked tries to text you, you will not receive text messages from them. The blocked person also does not receive any notification that they’re blocked. However, many iPhone users may be able to deduce that you’ve blocked them.

This is because of the iMessage text “status” feature on iPhones. When two iMessage users text one another, the message status bar says “Delivered” when the message arrives and the conversation bubbles are blue. So, when someone you’ve blocked texts you, they will not see any delivery status for their text and their message bubble will turn green.

Some people could use that to deduce they’ve been blocked. How To Block Text Messages On Iphone

When you block someone on text will they know?

If you’ve ever been bombarded with incessant messages on your phone or favorite social media app, or received even just one message from someone you’d rather not hear from, blocking the sender might seem like the obvious decision. But blocking works differently in different apps. Some apps prevent people you block from sending you messages altogether, which makes it clear to the sender that you’ve blocked them. That could be good if a person (or company) is filling your phone or messaging app inbox with spam, like sketchy links for cash rewards or refunds. More on Social Media Safety On other platforms, the sender might never know they’ve been blocked, though they may catch on when you never respond to their messages. This ambiguity might be an advantage with a casual acquaintance, like the person you met once at a potluck who keeps sending you news articles you’ve already seen. You’d rather not read them, but you want to avoid hurting the sender’s feelings. Whether you want to block someone in a stealthy way or an obvious one, you’ll need to know what happens on each platform or service. If you block someone, what does it look like to the sender? I spent a week blocking and unblocking my Consumer Reports colleagues, and asking them to block me, to better understand how the feature works on seven different platforms. I think they unblocked me after the testing, but for some apps I can’t be sure. Down below, we’ll look at each one. But first, here are two caveats. First, sometimes muting is better than blocking. This will stop you from getting notifications when the other person sends a message, and some apps will put their messages in a separate folder or tab in the app. But you’ll still be able to read their messages if you want to, so you can catch up on your sister’s food photos before giving her a phone call, even if you don’t want to see them every day. From a safety perspective, it may also be better to mute someone rather than blocking them if they’re sending harassing messages. That will give you evidence of the harassment in case things escalate, Secondly, you might need to turn off read receipts. That’s because if you have it enabled, the person you’ve blocked might quickly notice that you haven’t read any of their messages. That could tip them off. We’ll describe how to check or change this setting for each app. We’ve broken the apps we’re covering into two broad groups. Blocking Someone on Android Messages and Apple iMessage When you block a contact over Android or iPhone, they will still be able to send you text messages. These messages will not show up on your phone but the sender will see the messages as sent. They won’t know that they’ve been blocked. Blocking: In Messages, tap on the contact’s name in Contacts, tap More, then tap “Block contact.” In iMessage, tap on their name in Contacts, then tap on “Block this caller.” Read receipts: In Messages and iMessages, go to Settings > Message > Send Read Receipts or simply search for “receipts.” Turn that setting off if you don’t want the sender knowing when you’ve seen their messages. Alternatives to blocking: Instead of blocking, you can also hide alerts from individuals, which works the same as muting them. On iOS, open a chat conversation, tap on the contact profile, and toggle the Hide Alerts setting on. On Android, go to a chat conversation with the contact, tap the three dots in the upper right corner, tap Details, then Notifications, and select Silent.

This step helps stop unwanted spam calls, but it’s also great for personal reasons. The first indication that something’s up is the most obvious: You call and send text messages, but you get no response. There are many reasons this might be happening, of course, but a blocked number is one possibility. For most cases, texts you send will appear to go through usually, but the person you’re sending them to won’t receive them. That silence is your first hint something is wrong. What about text messages? Here are the steps to know if someone actually read your text. Count the rings before voicemail It’s a normal call when you call a person and hear the usual number of rings before getting voicemail. But if the person has blocked you, here’s the big indicator. You only hear a single ring before being diverted to voicemail. There are a few caveats. An unusual ring pattern doesn’t necessarily mean your number is blocked. It may just mean the person is talking to someone else at the same time you’re calling, has the phone off, or sent the call directly to voicemail. Try again later. If the one-ring and straight-to-voicemail pattern persists, it likely may be a case of a blocked number. TECH NEWS YOU CAN USE: The tech world changes by the day. There may be a simple reason why your calls aren’t going through. There could be a network problem, the person may have their phone turned off, the battery is dead, or they didn’t pay their bill on time. It happens. You could try to disguise your phone number.
