- The strongest tools in are now made of Netherite, an upgrade from Diamond gear.
- As expected, Netherite items have higher durability than Diamond items, but they can also float in lava and they don’t burn, which is a huge plus.
- Here’s how to upgrade your Diamond items to Netherite items:
- Get a Smithing Table, either by crafting one using Iron Ingots and planks or by stealing one from a village.
- Combine your Diamond item with a using the Smithing Table.
If you haven’t gotten a Netherite Ingot, that’s a bit tricky. You’ll need to go into the Nether and mine to find Ancient Debris. From there, you’ll have to smelt the Ancient Debris into a Furnace to get Netherite Scrap. You’ll need to combine four Netherite Scraps and four Gold Ingots in order to get one Netherite Ingot.

How do you make Netherite Ingot from ancient debris?
How to get Netherite Ingots in Minecraft – Netherite is an extremely strong material in Minecraft found in the Nether, so it’s a great thing to keep an eye out for while searching for Potion-making ingredients and the like. With Netherite Ingots you can make the very best Minecraft armor and tools.
To get Netherite Ingots, you need to mine Ancient Debris in the Nether. Ancient Debris is an ore block that spawns most often at Y-Level 15 in the Nether, much like Diamond in the Overworld. We’ll update this page if this changes with the 1.18 update terrain changes, that will rework caves and bring a new block called Dripstone into Minecraft.
Netherite can only be mined with a Diamond Pickaxe or a Netherite Pickaxe. This graph, taken from the Official Minecraft Wiki, details the spawn rate of Ancient Debris in the Nether per layer (Y-Level). You can find the highest concentrations of Ancient Debris at Y-Level 15. | Image credit: Official Minecraft Wiki When the world is generated, Ancient Debris is never spawned next to an open air block – meaning it will almost always be surrounded by other blocks.
However, Ancient Debris is blast-resistant, so mining with TNT at Y-Level 15 is actually a decent way of getting your hands on some Ancient Debris. Ancient Debris can be smelted into Netherite Scraps in a Furnace or Blast Furnace. After that, you can make a Netherite Ingot by combining 4 Netherite Scraps with 4 Gold Ingots (in any shape) in a Crafting Table.
If you’re lucky you can also find some Netherite Scraps as loot inside a Bastion Remnant in the Nether, which you can use to craft more Netherite Ingots.
What is the easiest way to get Netherite ingots?
#5 – Strip mining – Strip mining in the Nether Strip mining is the most basic way of obtaining Netherite, and the best level to find it is at the coordinate Y = 12. Players should leave two blocks in between lanes and then just mine in a straight line, creating a strip. Players must remain vigilant about the lava pockets they might run into while mining.
Why is Netherite so hard to get?
How to find Netherite in Minecraft – To get Netherite, you must first make and travel through a Minecraft Nether portal, Unlike diamond, you can’t find Minecraft Netherite in ore form in the ground. How much rarer is Netherite?
Minecraft’s rarest ores: Netherite vs diamond – Let’s talk about both the aforementioned Minecraft ores, starting with diamonds and diamond ore. Let it be known that both of these resources are pretty rare. Diamonds are resources found at the deepest levels of the Overworld dimension in the game. They are used to craft gear like high-tier weapons, tools, armor sets, and other items like enchanting tables, firework stars, jukeboxes, and blocks of diamond.
It can also generate anywhere below Y level 16, with the most profitable levels for diamonds being from Y level -50 to Y level -64. Finally, the ore has an approximate chance of 0.0846% to generate anywhere below Y level 16 (especially between Y levels 16 and 5), which means that 1 in every 1200 blocks under Y level 16 is bound to be a diamond ore block.
Netherite is a precious resource mined from a source called Ancient Debris, which is found only in the Nether dimension. As many players know, it is used to upgrade diamond gear into Netherite gear. One of the most significant advantages Netherite gear has over all other resources in the game is that it is fire-resistant and durable.
In terms of rarity, the ore block for, Ancient Debris, will have to be considered. Ancient debris generates in two blobs between Y levels 8-22 and 22-119. The highest amount of Ancient Debris can be found at Y level -15. As for spawn rates, ancient debris has a 0.004% chance to spawn in a chunk, making it a 1 in 25000 chance for an Ancient debris block to spawn in a chunk. : Is Netherite rarer than diamonds in Minecraft?

Does Fortune work on ancient debris?
Obtaining – Ancient debris generates in the Nether in the form of veins of one to four blocks (veins in adjacent chunks can occasionally increase this amount). The average amount of ore blocks per chunk is 1.65, and the typical maximum is 5 blocks, although it is technically possible to find a whopping 11 blocks.
- Ancient debris is obtained when mined with a diamond pickaxe or better.
- Ancient debris also generates only with either blocks or lava surrounding all 6 sides, never open to air (although in some rare instances it generates under a twisting vine, making it visible from the surface).
- Ancient debris can be gathered quickly in three ways: TNT explosions destroy netherrack, which has a low blast resistance but leaves ancient debris because of its previously mentioned blast resistance.
However, this process is very expensive. Exploiting the mechanic that causes using beds in The Nether and The End to explode works likewise. This process is cheaper and clears a much larger area, but it is more dangerous than TNT explosions as its blast range is higher and it sets fire to nearby blocks and players,
However, placing a block between the player and the bed will negate a majority of the damage. Another alternative is to branch mine using a diamond pickaxe with Efficiency V, but it will break quickly, so it is best to have Unbreaking and/or Mending on it, too. Ancient debris is most common on y=15, but if using beds, it is recommended to go a block or two lower to avoid dealing with lava lakes.
The Fortune enchantment does not work on ancient debris, just like iron and gold ore. It also doesn’t drop any experience. An easy and efficient way to look for ancient debris is by digging a very long two-block high, one block wide tunnel at y=12 to y=15.
Does Netherite burn in lava?
Netherite is a material from the Nether, used primarily to upgrade diamond gear. Netherite items are more powerful and durable than diamond, and in dropped item form are resistant to fire or lava. - On average, Y-level 15 has the most ancient debris.
- There is an average of 1.65 ancient debris blocks per chunk, with a normal maximum of 5.

Can you map the nether?
Trivia –
Maps work in the Nether, although the map must be crafted in the Nether. Maps crafted in the Nether do not work in the Overworld, and vice versa. Maps made in the Nether will not display any terrain because the roof of the world is covered in bedrock rendering them useless. In the Minecraft Console Editions, players are automatically spawned with a map in their inventory. As of 1.4, when maps are crafted, they are labeled as empty maps and will show the current chunk a player is in when right-clicked. This can be very useful in finding Jungle Temples and Desert Temples, as they will appear on the map as well. As of the 1.9 update, the map can now be held in the off hand, which can make it a minimap of sorts. The map, along with arrows are the only items that can be held in the off hand in the Console Editions and Bedrock Edition, The “Map Room” achievement in the Pocket Edition and Windows 10 Edition requires players to complete and properly arrange 9 separate maps in a grid pattern in item frames.
The “Map Room” achievement is also available in the Minecraft: Xbox One Edition and Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition,
In the Minecraft: New Nintendo 3DS Edition, the map is not an item, nor is it given to players upon starting a new world. Instead the map is always shown on the bottom screen, along with the inventory.

How do you use Netherite beds?
Mining With Beds – Lastly, you can mine for netherite using beds. This is dangerous, but it is a great way to find ancient debris if you do not have access to gunpowder. To mine with beds, you will need to manually mine out a 4×1 tunnel, placing a bed in the last two spots, as shown in the image above.
Your view of the bed should appear similar to the left side of the image above. Crouch down, and then click on the corner of the bed; this will cause it to immediately blow up, There will be a bit of knock back, but with basic armor, you should take little to no damage from the explosion; we tested this setup with no armor, and no damage was taken.
