How to Train Your Dragon dragon’s name?
Plot – The Viking village of Berk is frequently attacked by dragons, which steal livestock and endanger the villagers. Hiccup, the awkward 15-year-old son of the village chieftain, Stoick the Vast, is deemed too weak to fight the dragons. Instead, he creates mechanical devices under his apprenticeship with Gobber, the village blacksmith, though Hiccup’s inventions often backfire.

He tries to run away with Toothless, but Astrid ambushes him in the forest and discovers the dragon. Hiccup takes Astrid for a sunset flight to demonstrate that Toothless is friendly, but Toothless is hypnotically drawn to the dragons’ nest. There, a gargantuan dragon named the Red Death summons the smaller dragons to feed it live food to avoid being eaten themselves.
Realizing the dragons have been forced to attack Berk to survive, Astrid wishes to tell the village, but Hiccup advises against it to protect Toothless. In his final exam, Hiccup faces a captive Monstrous Nightmare dragon and tries to subdue him to prove that dragons can be peaceful. When Stoick inadvertently angers the dragon into attacking, Toothless escapes the cove to protect Hiccup but is captured by the Vikings.
After Hiccup accidentally reveals that Toothless knows the location of the dragons’ nest, Stoick ignores his son’s warnings about the Red Death and disowns him, setting off for the nest with Toothless chained to the lead ship as a guide. Hiccup is devastated, but Astrid prompts him to realize that he spared Toothless out of compassion, not weakness.

Hiccup attempts to free Toothless from the damaged ship; the two nearly drown, but Stoick rescues them, reconciling with his son. Toothless and Hiccup damage the Red Death’s wings before luring it into a dive and firing a fireball down its throat, killing it.

In the books, Luna and Toothless are the same species – the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus. There’s a bit of a shock reveal in the books when we learn Toothless is a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus himself. Similarly, the Light Fury and Toothless in HTTYD 3 are the same species, and there’s a shock value to discovering Toothless being the same species as this dragon he encounters. There’s lots of fandom speculation going on about the Light Fury being aquatic. If that’s the case, we can point out that the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus is a water dragon species as well. In the books, Luna is given her name because she glows like the light of the moon. As described on p.92 of How to Fight a Dragon’s Fury, “the Dragon Furious called his second-in-command to him, a luminously beautiful Seadragon slightly smaller than himself, known as Luna. She was so-called because she glowed with light like the moon. She lit up the dark stormclouds all around, and waves of heat pulsed out of her, so that the rain smoked and hissed when it landed on her shining body.” And from the picture of the Light Fury we have seen in The Hidden World, she also glows and looks radiant like the moon. So we get a dragon who is the same species as Toothless – like Luna – and glows with the light of the moon – like Luna.Luna is integrally important to saving the dragons in the final books! She’s the queen of dragons, and even though she’s initially hostile to Hiccup’s ideas (she fights against Hiccup with Furious in the war), she becomes the dragon Hiccup turns to to save dragonkind peacefully. She and Hiccup make arrangements for the dragons to disappear to where they can reside in safety apart from human civilization. HTTYD 3 will look at the concept of “There were dragons when I was a boy,” meaning the story will address whether or not – and if so, how – the dragons will disappear. It would only make sense that the Light Fury, akin to Luna, is how Hiccup and Toothless connect with the dragons in the hidden world – that this Light Fury is part of the key to helping dragons reside safely, even if in HTTYD 3 they turn out they need to disappear, too.
And if I get into more speculation, I could keep going with these parallels between Luna and the Light Fury. In fact, there are so many parallels we can envision between Luna and the Light Fury that I’m starting to wonder if this is some intentional parallel.
Even HTTYD 2, for all it progresses the story very differently than the book series, can be discussed through a series of parallels with Cressida Cowell’s novels. How many of those parallels are intentional, how many parallels are accidental, I don’t know, but the HTTYD trilogy has always hugged to the books like cousins.
This Light Fury very well could be named Luna! And if she is, I’m going to scream,

It is seen that this Light Fury is much stronger than Toothless, seeing as she was able to carry him effortlessly.
