Does Plant City have strawberries now?
How great is it that we live right next door to the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World – Plant City, Florida! That means we have an abundance of places for U Pick Strawberries within an hour’s drive and it is easy to find somewhere for strawberry picking near you.
- Strawberry picking in Florida is a GREAT family activity to do with kids.
- The berries grow in raised beds on the ground (unless they are hydroponic strawberry plants) so they are easy for kids to reach.
- We try to go pick our own strawberries in Tampa / Lakeland / Plant City area every year.
- Strawberry season in Florida typically runs from December – March, with the Plant City Strawberry Festival as the annual celebration of all things berry! We will do our best to keep an updated list below of who is currently open, however we cannot begin to keep track of ever-changing Strawberry U-Pick days/hours so a website and/or Facebook page is included for each farm so you can check yourself when you plan to go, (Facebook is typically the best source for updated info) There are some strawberry picking farms open all season for you pick strawberries (December – April) Many farms will not open for u-pick strawberry picking season until their commercial season ends, which is typically in March and is dependent on the weather. Be sure to pull up the address before you make plans, some of these Strawberry farms in Florida are a 1+ hour drive from Lakeland and Polk County.

Is Plant City the strawberry capital of the world?
The Winter Strawberry Capital of the World – Originally Plant City was a large cotton center. Changing its major crop to strawberries has brought it national recognition. Today, over 3/4 of the nation’s midwinter strawberries come from Plant City. At the Florida Strawberry Festival, held each winter, you can taste some of the finest shortcake, pie, and cobblers made from the freshest strawberries in the land.

What time does the Strawberry Festival close in Plant City?
First things first How to get tickets and special discounts for the Florida Strawberry Festival. – The festival runs March 2 through March 12, 2023 at 2209 W. Oak Avenue in Plant City from 10:00 am-10:00 pm. Admission is $10 for adults ages 13 and older, $5 for kids ages 6-12, and kids 5 and younger are FREE.

When should I buy strawberries?
When Is Strawberry Season? – For most of the country, June is prime time for strawberries. You might also see them in the fall at some farmers’ markets, thanks to ever-bearing varieties that can produce until nearly the first frost. If you do, consider yourself lucky.
They’re so delicate. It’s tricky because if it gets too hot in the summer, the plants just give up,” says Peter Klein, whose Seedling Orchard in South Haven, Michigan supplies strawberries and other fruits to many Chicago chefs. Strawberries like warm days and cool nights, which is why they thrive in California.
There, the year-round growing cycle starts in the south, wends its way up through the Central Coast, into the Monterey Bay area and back again. But the sweet spot is between April and July. That’s when production in all the growing areas overlaps, says Carolyn O’Donnell, a commission spokeswoman.
